Questions & Answers

Laser Treatment FAQs — Unique Laser Clinics Bolton

Everything you need to know before booking your first laser treatment in Bolton.

Getting Started

Before Your First Session

Do I need a consultation before booking?

Yes — every new client has a free consultation before their first full treatment session. The consultation takes about 20 minutes. We review your medical history, assess your skin, explain the treatment fully and usually perform a patch test on the same day. There’s no pressure to book further treatments.

What is a patch test and why do I need one?

A patch test is a small trial pulse of laser on a discreet area to confirm your skin responds safely before a full treatment. It takes two minutes. We wait 24 to 48 hours for any delayed reaction before booking your first full session. This is standard safety practice for all reputable clinics.

How do I know if laser is right for me?

We’ll tell you honestly at your free consultation. Factors include your skin type (Fitzpatrick I–VI), hair or pigment colour, health conditions, medications, recent sun exposure and pregnancy status. If laser isn’t the best option, we’ll suggest alternatives rather than push ahead.

Safety

Safety and Suitability

Who can’t have laser treatment?

We don’t treat clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 16 (under 18 for some treatments), on oral isotretinoin (Roaccutane) or within 6 months of finishing it, with recent sunburn or active tan, with uncontrolled diabetes or epilepsy, or with active skin infections on the treatment area. Full contraindications covered at consultation.

Is laser safe on dark skin?

Our medical-grade lasers are safe on most skin tones, including Fitzpatrick V and VI, when settings are tailored carefully. Older machines and IPL can pose a risk on darker skin because they don’t distinguish melanin in the hair from melanin in the skin. Our diode laser is designed for all skin types with correct training and settings.

Are there any side effects?

Common side effects are mild and temporary: redness, warmth, slight swelling and occasionally small bumps that settle in a few hours. Rare effects include temporary pigmentation changes. Serious effects (burns, blistering, scarring) are extremely rare when treatment is delivered by a trained therapist with appropriate settings.

Cost & Courses

Pricing and Packages

How much do laser treatments cost?

Prices start from £35 per session for small areas like the upper lip. Full pricing for every treatment is listed on our pricing page. Course packages of six sessions at 20 per cent off most treatments give the best value.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes — we offer interest-free payment plans on courses of £500 or more, split over three monthly instalments. Ask at your consultation.

Are consultations really free?

Yes, consultations are always free with no obligation to book. If you want to proceed on the same day and we have the capacity, we can often perform the patch test in the same appointment so you can book your first full session as soon as possible.

Practical

Practical Questions

How long is each appointment?

Consultation appointments are 20 to 30 minutes. Treatment appointments vary by area: 10 minutes for upper lip, 15-20 for underarms or bikini, 30-45 for half legs, 60+ for full legs or full back. We build in time for skin prep and aftercare at every appointment.

Can I come on my lunch break?

Yes — many smaller treatments (upper lip, chin, underarms, small tattoo) fit comfortably inside a 30-minute break. Let us know if you’re on a tight schedule and we’ll plan around it.

Do you treat men?

Yes. Men book laser for back, chest, shoulders, beard shaping, neckline, skin rejuvenation and tattoo removal. All treatments are delivered in a private, non-judgemental environment by fully trained therapists.

Can I bring someone with me?

Of course — especially to your consultation or first session if it helps you feel comfortable. During treatments, guests usually wait in our reception area.
